Christoforos Kokotos

Areas of Research/Expertise

Christoforos G. Kokotos is an Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry from the Department of Chemistry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. He obtained his Bsc from the same University, before performing PhD in the University of Bristol, UK in Asymmetric Organic Synthesis with Prof. Varinder Aggarwal. After postdoctoral studies in the University of Athens, Greece and Princeton University, USA (with Prof. David W. C. MacMillan), he returned to the University of Athens as a Lecturer, before becoming an Assistant Professor. His research interests lies in the field of asymmetric organocatalysis and in particular in the development of novel green and sustainable methodologies in Organocatalysis, Organocatalytic oxidation- activation of hydrogen peroxide and Photocatalysis and their applications in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, bioactive compounds and natural products. He has over 75 publication is peer reviewed journals and has several awards (2 awards from the Academy of Athens, 3 times representing Greece in Europe’s Young Academic Investigators Conference and one time representing Europe in ACS Young Academic Investigators Conference). He would like to get involved in applications of mechanochemistry.
